We kept it small and most importantly, out of my house! It was at The Little Gym in Pearland. Braelyn had a good time hanging on bars and walking on balance beams. Parker mostly just walked around and followed the bigger kids. He did eat the heck out of a blue cupcake and everyone else enjoyed some yummy cake. Yes, he is walking and has been doing so for over a month. I wouldn't have minded a bit if he had decided to wait a while, but he just wants to go go go. And where does he go go to? Anywhere he shouldn't. He likes to throw things in the toilet and bathtubs, play w/ the plants and all their dirt, and I think if he could manage it, he'd crawl into the dryer. He's just a fun little boy and I enjoy watching him explore and grow. He's full of smiles and he sleeps. Who ever thought that this little baby who wouldn't sleep in the beginning would sleep until 7:30 AM. Around our house...that's pretty late. One Saturday morning I had to actually wake him up so that Braelyn and I could go swimming at the YMCA. I felt I was breaking some type of cosmic rule by waking up a child on a Saturday morning.

Braelyn is just getting older and older by the day. The things she says sometimes just blow my mind because she can just figure things out. I think she is becoming frustrated with me because I don't have all the answers she wants sometimes. She is still doing Karate and has earned her orange and white belt. She finished up her dance classes at school with a recital. I'm hoping that Brandon will upload the video soon. I feel that her talent doesn't really lie in dance but maybe music (since she does want to be a rock star). During the dance, most of the little girls were doing ballet moves (though not necessarily the ones they were supposed to do) and my little one was acting out the song via hand movements. It was HILARIOUS! I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. Quite honestly I thought I'd bawl like a baby during her ballet dance, but I couldn't because of the laughing.

Brandon and I are doing well. The sell of our house fell through and that was quite a disappointment. We plan on keeping it on the market at least through the summer and then we might re-evaluate our plans. I've started back to work full time this week and I'm none to excited. I much prefer working from home and only going in 3 days a week...this 5 days a week is not cool. I don't really think I have the wardrobe to work 5 days a week.

Hope all is well!

Love from the Burdines!

Stephaniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02997757161370876079noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2543508621947193110.post-72462405164406268622008-03-03T18:26:00.000-06:002008-03-14T18:22:07.345-05:00the View from BehindI'm just going to skip the normal apologies and excuses about updating and go right to the good stuff :)

Braelyn turned 4 in Feb and had her birthday at Jumpin' Jungle! Everyone had a great time and was so worn out. I didn't even jump and I was exhausted afterwards. She had a Princess themed cake and goodies. Despite all my attempts to dissuade her from the color pink...she loves it. O'well, maybe it is ingrained in her DNA? On March 1st, Braelyn had her first belt test for Karate. She's been doing Karate for a few months and we all really enjoy it. During the test the teacher tried to get various students to lead a group in a karate form. When one of the little boys didn't want to do it, my little girl volunteered and did a great job! She does it much faster then normal but does all the moves right and uses the same voice inflection the teacher does. Brandon captured it all on video...here's the link: Braelyn's Karate Video.

Parker is now 9 months old! He is sleeping great (knock on wood) and I now have to wake him up in the morning! I finally gave into his binkie usage and now he has 4 in his crib. When he wakes up, he cries a little and finds one and goes back to sleep. Binkies are like insta-sleep for him. He can be sitting up, when he puts the binkie in his mouth, he dive bombs into the bed and goes back to sleep. He's eating solids and getting teeth. Most notable though, is that Parker started crawling. I think he and Brae are more excited then Brandon and me. I've decided all babies have a death wish because he goes straight for the things that can cause him the most harm. His favorite toy is our portable "Shark" vacuum cleaner. He is infatuated by it and that's the first place he headed once he crawled into the kitchen. Even when he's in his walker, he beelines for it and moves it around. I'd like to think that this means he'll be my little cleaning helper, but somehow I doubt it.

Braelyn and Parker are priceless to watch. In the few moments I don't have to stop Braelyn from accidentally hurting him, I'm not prying her hair out of his hand/mouth, or going deaf from all the joyful screaming, I'm just giddy with pleasure. Parker loves to watch Braelyn and follows her around...though she's still too fast. Braelyn is great at making Parker laugh (see joyful screaming comment above) and in turn she laughs too. It really is fun and tiring to see them play and I'm hoping their bond just continues to grow. (It better because neither one of them are getting another sibling).

I've started back to work 3 days a week and moved to a new office location. Though my commute is completely terrible now, I have a good job and a fabulous boss. I'm lucky to have 2 out of 3. I have Mondays and Fridays off and I'm loving this schedule. I really didn't quite understand how much harder 2 kids would be when I went back to work. We are adjusting nicely but it has been a big change for me. Parker wasn't very happy at the sitter's at first, but now he doesn't mind as much. That has made it easier as well, those first few days were tough.

It's pretty certain that we will be selling our house and moving to another part of P-land. We are excited about this change and everything is happening so fast. We came into this possibility with "If it is meant to be, it will happen". I feel this is truly one of those times, where you pray about something, give it to God, and see what happens. He as been very busy on our behalf. I wish that meant I wasn't completely stressing about everything, but then again, a zebra can't change its stripes and neither can I. More to come on that later, assuming everything falls into place. As of right now, nothing is official.

If you want to see more pics of the Burdine kiddos, check out the Snapfish links to the right.

Love to All - StephanieStephaniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02997757161370876079noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2543508621947193110.post-71435002249335179232007-11-09T08:48:00.000-06:002007-11-09T08:52:41.185-06:00Pillow FightI had to share this hilarious story about Braelyn:

One day Brandon and Braelyn were coming home from school and talking about God. Braelyn was asking where God is and Brandon said "All Around Us" or "Everywhere". Braelyn asks "Is He right next to me?" and Brandon says He is. Braelyn then grabs her pillow and says "I'm going to have a pillow fight with God" and proceeds to hit the space next to her with her pillow. I didn't ask Brae if she was upset that God didn't play back...then again He didn't have a pillow. :)Stephaniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02997757161370876079noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2543508621947193110.post-14774491643091673012007-11-07T08:36:00.000-06:002007-11-07T14:26:26.622-06:00Halloween, Cereal, and MoreIt's been awhile and lots of little things have happened! Parker is now 5 months old! The Sleeping Report: Could be better, but not too terrible...most nights. Parker is a GREAT baby though. He's easy going and happy most of the time. He started eating Rice Cereal on his 5 month birthday. He seems to like it (despite the picture) and already is trying to munch on anything we are eating. Braelyn just can't wait until she can feed him and he can eat real food. She's already wanted what he's eating, I have a feeling that will change once we get into pureed veggies. He's also started rolling around and easily gets off the blankets and mat. I expect to find him under a table some time soon.

Braelyn had a blast on Halloween, despite my loathing of the "holiday". She went as a ghost. I was hoping for the nice "Casper" type ghost, but the face paint Brandon and Stacey applied to her made her more of a scary "give mommy nightmares" kind of ghost. This years costume was actually homemade. I dusted off the sewing machine (yes, I own a sewing machine) and did a very bad job of hemming her sheet. But to the casual observer, it looks fine. Let's just hope Martha Stewart doesn't get a glimpse. Once T&T'ing was over, Brae and Brandon came home to help hand out candy. I really think that Braelyn enjoyed this just as much. She stood at the door with two fist-fulls of candy just waiting for the door bell. Anyone lucky enough to get her candy, got much more then the allotted 2 piece max. She wasn't scared of any of the costumes (wish I could say that same...I mean, nobody young enough to Trick or Treat should know who Jason is...).

I've talked about Halloween and Cereal...I guess this is the "more" part :) Brandon and I are just doing more of the same. Thanks to Parker becoming somewhat predictable, I'm getting out of the house more often which makes me a happy gal. Brandon has started taking Braelyn to school and will be taking Ponytail lessons from me very soon. Though if it was up to Braelyn she'd just move her hair out of her face every 5 seconds rather then have her hair up. I'm still cooking and trying lots of new recipes (mostly from Robin Miller). I'm dreading going back to work and fear our family will starve once I do. That's all I can think of for now. Hope everyone is doing fabulous! I've added more October and November pictures to Snapfish. Her school has web cams, so I often watch during the day. I might have taken it a little far though when I called the school the other day to ask why Brae didn't have her blanket during nap time. (It was under her cot and they covered her up after my call). The age of technology...a blessing and a curse. Brae amazes us daily with what she is learning. We are quite proud that she can spell (not write..yet) her name, mom, and dad. Aunt Stacey gets to spend lots of quality time w/ Brae on the way to school and has a new story everyday. Recently Brae told Stacey that she needs to shop for a new convertible. Brae doesn't think Stacey's car is cool enough. Brae is still trying to talk me into getting a truck. Who knows why though. We've been getting a lot of rain here lately (not a shock...it's summer in Houston) and we got out a little last weekend. Braelyn had lots of fun playing in the puddles, but was still concerned about getting her dress dirty. Also, blue crocs...her idea, not mine. Not a battle I wanted to fight...that day.

Parker is now 3 months old! He's sleeping better, but still getting me up at least once a night and early in the morning. He is a very happy baby though. He is smiling, talking, and laughing most of the time. He also started rolling over from his back to his tummy this week! Exciting yes, but now we just can't leave him anywhere we choose. I'm trying to decide if I should get him a Bumbo. Feel free to share thoughts and advice....

Brandon and I are doing well. Brandon's birthday is Friday. Thanks to the combined help of Stacey and Nana, we will be escaping the house without the kids. I can't wait. Not sure what we are doing, but I'm sure we'll spend most of the time talking about the kids. There will also be some wine and dessert involved too (At least for me). It's been a LONG time since I've had a whole glass a wine. It's hasn't been a long time since I've had dessert.....though it needs to be.

I've uploaded many more new kid pics to snapfish. We've tried some new recipes last month but nothing to really get excited about. The one I would love to share isn't online, just in the cookbook. I don't want the Food Network coming after me for unlawfully publishing a recipe (not to mention I'd have to type it in...).

Love to All!Stephaniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02997757161370876079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2543508621947193110.post-34865739631107055542007-08-09T09:41:00.000-05:002007-08-09T11:31:09.240-05:00How the Long Weeks Fly ByParker P. (which is one of the many names we call him) is 9 weeks old! It's amazing how time flies by so slowly. I barely remember life without Parker but yet, it seems like just yesterday that we were bringing him home. It's part of this time phenomenon that makes it so hard to believe that my little one isn't sleeping more in the night. It feels like he's been here forever and should be sleeping and potty trained :) However that is not the case. I long for the days when I'll get.. O' say 4 continuous hours of sleep. I actually have real doubts that I can sleep for more then 3 hours at a time now. I can't wait to actually test that theory. Anyway, Parker went to the doctor and got 4 shots! It was all I could do not to cry as loud as he did. It totally broke my heart. When Braelyn goes to the doctor for shots she gets ice cream. But since Parker is too young for ice cream, I got his share. Ice cream definitely helps. As of last week, Parker weighed 11 lbs 4 oz (75%), was 22.5 in long (50%) and has a 90% head. I feel he's grown a lot this week though, so who knows what he weighs now. I just can't wait for him to get into him 3-6 wardrobe. I'm already tired of 0-3 clothes :)

Braelyn.....is three and a half. Anyone who has ever had a 3 year old knows that really all I need to say about her. She is constantly making us laugh, but I don't think she knows why. A few days ago we were dancing and she tells me to "Shake my booty". It was quite a proud moment. She is also very in tune with her feelings and told her daddy that "He was giving her a headache". At those moments, laughing only encourages her, but it is near impossible not to laugh. It does really make me think of the things I say to her, because more then likely she'll say them right back to me later. She's also getting into the "What" and "Why" stage of her life. While daddy was changing Parker's diaper, then inevitable question of "What's that?" came from Braelyn. Stacey and I were in the other room listening to Brandon's answer. I was hoping it would be a serious and straight forward answer......then I remembered it was Brandon answering the question. His reply to my very impressionable daughter...."Frank and Beans"....followed by his "Coin Purse". I'm hoping Braelyn is not scarred for life now and will one day ask the question again...to me. I'll tell her the correct answer "Hot Dog and Buns". Just kidding.

Nothing really new to report for Brandon & me. I have been cleared to exercise again....and I'll try to get on that just as soon as I get some sleep. I have been cooking a lot more and Rachel Ray has been replaced with Robin Miller as my new favorite. I think I'll add a links thing on the side of the Blog with some of my favorite recipes. We also do a lot of Dream Dinners and that is really great.

Hope all is great w/ you. My goal is to update the Burdine Buzz twice a month. Enjoy!Stephaniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02997757161370876079noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2543508621947193110.post-66564305185437768872007-07-17T15:35:00.000-05:002007-07-17T19:02:44.846-05:00A little something about me as a father....To add to Stephanie's excellent telling of the story of the ducks at the Museum. Our daughter did indeed get all the ducks in a row. I think in that picture, she was in negotiations with an old lady on what duck she could take and what she would have to give in trade for said duck.

Now to the father who took a duck right out from underneath my girl....he almost got a big ole sock to the jaw and the kid who took the ducks while Brae was expressing her displeasure to the dad, the other kid almost got her head held under the water until the bubbles stopped. ..ok not really but you get the drift. This extreme emotional response is not new. There were some girls being mean to her during her first gymnastics class....it took a lot of will power and repeating "Brandon, they're just kids" over and over not to tell them something mean about their mother not loving them.

I won't be one of those dad's who yells at an up for a bad call but I don't think I'll be able to deal very well with other kids playing dirty or other parents yelling to their kids (in regards to mine) "go ahead honey, she can't hit it!!"

A bit over protective maybe? ....naw.Brandonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14143793445723249481noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2543508621947193110.post-25603511824982441022007-07-17T14:39:00.000-05:002007-07-26T11:08:36.573-05:00More Burdine NewsI can't believe that July is half-way over! It seems to be going by so quickly. Parker is 6 weeks old today and getting bigger everyday (~10lbs now). He's started to smile occasionally and grabbing at things...though it usually is a total accident if he gets anything in his hands (his favorite thing is Aunt Stacey's jewelry). Maybe he'd grab my jewelery too but I just can't find anything that goes well with my comfy clothes (aka PJs) I'm usually wearing.

July 4th wasn't much of a big deal this year. The highlight was dressing Brae & Parker in matching shirts (gotta love Old Navy). Brae thought it was neat. You can see from the picture that Parker was oblivious to the whole thing. The whole house has been sick for the last few weeks and we were all still under house arrest. Luckily, Parker was sparred the various plagues that hit Casa Burdine. I on the other hand was not and got an ear infection. I now know what Braelyn went through will all her ear infections...all I can say is they aren't fun.

Braelyn has been out and about, thanks to her wonderful dad. He recently took her to the Houston Children's Museum with Kennedy and her dad (Brad) and they played and played. Braelyn is kind of a hoarder though and gathered up all the toy ducks and actually put her "ducks in a row". All was good until a dad grabbed a duck for his kid and then another duck-napping occurred while she was trying to chase down the first duck. I think soon after that, the crew departed the museum and at some pizza. She also saw Rattatouie and same night I saw Harry Potter (yes, I actually escaped the house). Now we trade stories at night. She likes for me to tell her Harry Potter stories, but yet she likes to tell me how they end and the names of the people in them. Like Ginny is not Ginny...she's Jennifer. And the Harry crew didn't fly on Threstals, they flew on Unicorns. O'well, whatever makes her happy. It's those times at night that I cherish the most because it's relaxed and is just us two.

Nothing much in the works with us. Family visiting and just life as normal. I'll try to update w/ new and exciting pictures.Stephaniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02997757161370876079noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2543508621947193110.post-79062197883663174232007-06-26T10:15:00.000-05:002007-06-26T10:32:03.676-05:00Holy Cow....I did it!I've finally done it...created a BLOG. This should make some people out there very happy! The trick is will I update it? I'm hoping to update it, at least while I'm at home w/ Parker. We'll see after that, it depends on what type of assignment I get when I return to work.

The Burdine Family has grown and is doing very well. Braelyn LOVES baby Parker and Parker will undoubtedly (one day) idolize Braelyn. Right now, Parker is mostly all about eating and sleeping. Braelyn is starting to realize that Parker isn't going too be much fun for a while. She continually wants to hug, kiss, and pet him. It's really quite adorable. She keeps asking if he can play with her and gets a little frustrated that he can't. I think she is also getting tired of washing her hands all the time. It's hard to get a 3 year old to understand the concept of germs.

Brandon started a new assignment within Trimac the week after Parker was born. The hours are a little longer but no more travel!!!! He is very happy in his new job and is keeping very busy. I started my temporary new job on 6/5/07 and it is quite challenging (longer hours and no travel too :) I will return back to work in January. Parker is a totally different baby (despite they are almost mirror images of each other) then Braelyn. Though they both seem to share the same Gas issues, Parker likes to sleep and can sleep just about anywhere. Parker is also a boy and has all the boy parts. So far, I've been pretty lucky and only shot by the Pee Rocket twice. We have had to wash our duvet cover once and in the first few days he went through many more changes of clothes because the diaper just couldn't hold it in.

That's enough for now. I'll write more later and try to figure out how to add some pics too.

-StephanieStephaniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02997757161370876079noreply@blogger.com3
